The Northern Alberta Primary Care Research Network (NAPCReN) website launched in November 2013. The NAPCReN is a re-branding of the core primary care research network that is contributing data to the Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) which was a subset of the Alberta Family Physicians Research Network (AFPRN).
There are two existing primary care research networks in Alberta, the Southern Alberta Primary Care Research Network ( www.sapcren.ca ) and the Northern Alberta Primary Care Research Network ( www.napcren.ca ). They both adopt participatory and interdisciplinary approaches to research.
The Alberta College of Family Physicians is the home of the Northern Alberta Primary Care Research Network (NAPCReN) – a provincial network that is designed to advocate for family physician researchers and promote the discipline.
The Network Director’s name is Donna Manca. Alberta has developed outstanding medical researchers and facilities in selected areas. The health research base, however, is needed to provide answers to questions that arise in primary care. Research needs to expand and flourish in the community at large where the majority of health care occurs – i.e. family practice. Appropriate, meaningful collaboration among researchers in primary, secondary and tertiary care settings, medical research institutes and academic environments would result in substantially improved patient outcomes, disease prevention strategies and health service delivery methods. http://www.napcren.ca
